The Volvo PHEV Powertrain

Sporting a 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged four-cylinder engine plus an electric motor, the Volvo PHEV lineup produces some serious performance. At 415 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque, these are the most powerful Volvo models in the lineup, giving you both an electrified component for added efficiency plus exhilarating performance. The fuel-free electric motor can take you up to 55 miles before you’ll need to switch to the gasoline engine, or you can use the two motors together to improve overall efficiency on a longer drive.

Volvo PHEV Models

There are currently five models in the new Volvo lineup that offer this B8 Recharge plug-in hybrid powertrain, starting with the sporty Volvo S60. As the smallest and lightest of the bunch, it’s also the most efficient, getting you over 34 mpg highway with combined power and over 50 miles of electric-only range. It’s wagon sibling, the Volvo V60, boasts similar numbers, as does the larger Volvo S90 luxury sedan.

You’ll have a pair of SUVs with the Recharge moniker as well. Both the Volvo XC60 and the three-row Volvo XC90 are available as plug-in hybrid models, giving you the space you need without the guilt of buying a larger vehicle in these difficult times.
