A new addition to the Volvo fleet for 2022, the Volvo C40 Recharge is a pure electric compact SUV. It shares exterior, and interior architecture with the Volvo XC40 slimmed down yet still endowed with the rich, minimalist aesthetic typical of the brand. Our team at Sandberg Volvo Cars in Lynnwood, WA, highlights what to expect from Volvo's first pure electric crossover.
Volvo C40: Trims and Colors
The Volvo C40 Recharge is available in eight exterior colors and three trims or Equipment Levels: Core, Plus, and Ultimate. The Core Equipment Level includes shift-by-wire single-speed transmission, a sculpted gear selector, and an afterrun parking climate feature. The Plus and Ultimate Equipment Levels add even more features: a power passenger seat, a heat pump, and an air-ventilated subwoofer.
Distributed throughout the leather-free cabin are intelligently hidden storage options (quite a few, in fact). Seating five, the cabin boasts nearly four feet of height for generous head- and legroom. Its 50-cubic-foot cargo area holds up to six carry-on bags, gear, and shopping bags for large haul days around the Seattle-Tacoma area.
Power and Performance
The Volvo C40 Recharge's 2,000-pound towing capacity results from a torquey, responsive powertrain. It combines a 75-kWh battery pack with two electric motors, a motor mounted in the front and back, and standard all-wheel drive. The undercarriage battery pack and motors churn out an impressive 402 combined horsepower, with an EPA-estimated full-charge range of 225 miles and estimated economy of 85/72 MPGe city/highway.
Connectivity and Safety
Epitomizing advanced technology inside and out, the Volvo C40 Recharge offers the latest connectivity and safety. Its infotainment platform is Google-based, with all of Google Built-In's features at your disposal. An array of 13 hi-fi speakers and a 600-watt amp by Harmon Kardon ensure a crisp, thumping playlist during daily commutes.
Driver assistance features are the most trend-forward on the market. A bird's-eye 360-degree parking view, a cross-traffic alert when in reverse, a blind spot information system, and lane-keep assist steering wheel vibrations. The safety suite also entails day and nighttime frontal collision warnings with autobraking.
